Starting with a set of drums at age 8, Jim has always loved to play anything he could get his hands on. He began formal music training in 6th grade on the trumpet. In 1983 after being introduced to bands like Rush, Yes, and Iron Maiden, he knew he wanted to start playing bass. Jim feels very fortunate to have been in the right place at the right time when he began playing bass in Memphis in 1985. Memphis was musically on fire and historic Beale Street was alive with everything from blues, to jazz, to heavy metal. It was there he had the privilege to become part of the scene that would launch the careers of Tora Tora, Jimi Jameson, and many others. Most early playing was improvised with different musicians from week to week and different clubs. It was during this brief one year period that he had to build his chops and build them properly to be competitive. In 1988, he recorded with Von Ankh and had a local radio single. By 1993, he had played with more than 10 successful Memphis acts including Rock House and Gypsy Rose. Relocating to Central Florida in 1994, Jim quickly picked up where he left off joining recording artists Black Eyed Soul and later Cast Down, Sleep Until Noon, Stroke of Midnight, Wasted Years Iron Maiden Tribute. In 2012 after an audition with Mo'Rockin' at Epcot, Jim was able to network with musicians in nearly every genre of music and as fate had it, he was introduced by the ex bassist of that band to the members of HYPWITCH and here we are!
